Almost every steel band has this problem, there is stinky dirt existed between the links. You must clean your watch band thoroughly. First, pour some alcohol into a shallow dish and soak your band in the alcohol for a few minutes. Then, take the steel band out and dry it carefully. If you also want to clean the dirt on the case back, you can use cotton swabs dipped in alcohol to wipe.

How to Determine Whether Your Watch Has Been Magnetized ?

Last time, i introduced a simple way to degauss a magnetized watch, however, many people may not know how to determine whether their watches has been magnetized or not. Generally speaking, a magnetized watch will go faster than a normal one, some even 2 hours faster a day.

In everyday life, strong magnetic field is everywhere, the most common is the handbag’s magnetic button, which is made of Al-Fe-B, so it has a great magnetism. Besides, TV, radio and other electric equipments can also magnetize your watch.

Fortunately, there is a simple way to determine whether your watch has been magnetized or not, that’s the compass. Find a sensitive compass and lie it flat on a table, then hold your watch over the compass and repeatly move the watch over the compass quickly, if the pointer of the compass moves, that indicates you watch has been magnetized.

A Simple Way to Degauss Your Watch.

Your watch will be magnetized after contacting with strong magnetic electromotor, also you cann’t put it on the radio or TV, otherwise, the watch will be easily magnetized and will no longer keep accurate time or even shut down.

Don’t worry ! You can take your watch to a watch repair store. But here i suggest a simple way to deal with this situation by yourself. First, find a circular non-magnetized iron, which is hollow in the middle. Second, erect the iron on a table, then move your watch through the hollow for several times, after a few minutes, your watch will be demagnetized.

How to Maintain Your Watch's Sapphire Crystal Glass Face ?

Watch crystals are usually divided into three types, plexiglass, mineral glass and sapphire glass. Although ceramic has the greatest scratch resistance, it is easy to be broken. Plexiglass can easily get scratched, but has a better impact resistance. Sapphire has the best scratch resistance, but the material is crisp, fear of being collided. Mineral glass is somewhere between them.

To avoid your sapphire glass face getting scratched, don’t let it friction with diamond, millstone, sandpaper, nail file and concrete wall. Allow it to contact with sharp and hard objects can also cause damage to the glass face. Besides, you’d better check your watch band at regular, otherwise, the watch glass can be broken to pieces once your watch fall to the ground.

Note: When buying watches, somebody frictions the watch glass face on the floor or scratches it with some hard objects to test hardness of the watch glass. I do not recommend to do so.

Take Out The Battery From Your Quartz Watch.

If you are going to store your quartz watch for a long time, you’d better take out the battery from it.

As you know, almost every quartz watch uses silver oxide battery, this battery will discharge automatically even the watch is not working, the size of self-discharge rate is related with the temperature, the higher the temperature, the greater the self-discharge rate.

Some silver oxide batteries have leakage problems and their surfaces are easy to be covered by alkali. The alkaline electrolyte inside the silver oxide battery is highly corrosive, once leak out, it will cause great harm to your watch. First, the alkaline electrolyte will corrode and make the reed contact rust (Picture 1). Second, serious leakage will rust movement splint and even damage the dial.

So, taking out the battery before storing your quartz watch is advised, you can take it to a jeweler and have the battery taken out. Finally, to keep accurate time, it is important to choose a top quality brand battery and replace it regularly.

Replace a Butterfly Clasp to Extend the Life of Your Leather Watch Band.

For leather watch band, after long use, it is prone to crack and even be broken on the bended place. As you know, there are many horizontal stripes on alligator leather band, if one stripe is coincident with the bending, your alligator strap will be broken in the near future, but it is very expensive to replace the alligator leather band.

So, in your daily life, you must maintain your leather strap carefully. To extend the life of a leather band, you can replace it with a butterfly clasp.

A butterfly clasp has the following advantages:

1, Avoid your leather band being bended by the greatest extent.

2, It is comfortable for wearing and be able to connect watch and band into a ring, so very convenient to wear and take off.

3, Butterfly clasp can hold and control your watch better, when wearing, your watch will not turn left and right, it is very suitable for those watches that have thick case and large diameter.

Ceramic Watch and Its Maintenance.

Ceramic is an advanced and modern material, which is valued by watchmakers for its light weight, smooth touch, scratch resistance, stable physical properties, acid and alkali resistance, corrosiveness resistance. Besides, it will not harm your skin, because many people are allergic to Nickel exsisted in the case and bracelet of stainless steel watches.

There are many ceramic watches differ in varous colours, like black, silver grey, golden, blue and white. Black is the most common, which is also called “Black Ceramic“.

In my opinion, ceramic watch also has some disadvantages:

1, Edges and corners are not clear.

2, Easily broken, worrying about being fallen and colliding with hard objects.

3, Gap between the links is too large, dirt will enter into easily.

Talking about after-sale service, cracked ceramic watch band and case is common occurrence. Many customers pledge in all sincerity that their watches were not fallen to the ground, but soon after replacing the cracked links, the new band broke again.

So, when wearing an overall ceramic watch, be careful.
